What are White Truffles?
White Winter Truffles, referred to as Piedmont Truffles or Alba Truffles, are seasonal truffles harvested from September to December in the forests of Alba, surrounding Piedmont, a Northwestern region of Italy. Tuber Magnatum is the specific species of truffle in the family of Tuberaceae.
What do White Truffles Taste Like?
White Winter Truffles have a taste similar to black truffles however with a distinct and earthy and aromatic and slightly ‘spicier’ than its black truffle counterpart. With tones of nuts, forest floor, and sweet oak, the flesh of the white truffle is meaty and dense, much like a traditional mushroom.
How rare are White Truffles?
White Winter Truffles are extremely rare and are rarely harvested in bulk due to its seasonal growing conditions and difficult nature to forage and handpick from the forest.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Italy (Umbria and Alba regions)
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Never cook truffles! Thinly shave, or grate over a warm dish such as risotto, pasta, or eggs. The radiant heat of the dish is just enough to enhance the fresh flavors of white truffles.
